We decided to start helping South East Animal Rescue in January 2018 by fostering dogs. It was one of the best decisions ever. Our first foster dog was ‘Boxty’ a timid, shy Saluki girl who was initially very frightened of people. Seeing her gain confidence in our home each day with a little bit of patience and with the help of our own dogs was so rewarding.
There was no better feeling than seeing how happy Boxty was a couple of months later in her forever home with her wonderful new family, she was like a totally new dog, no longer broken from cruelty and neglect but happy and wagging her tail doing ‘zoomies’ around the garden. We have fostered many more gorgeous dogs and puppies since then including Max, Holly, Cooper, and Lily. Of course we did also fail as foster parents once, we just fell too deeply in love and couldn’t let Luna go, or more accurately she wouldn’t let us go, and so we gave her a forever home with us.

Volunteering as a foster parent for South East Animal Rescue has been so rewarding, I have enjoyed every moment of it. Seeing dogs that have been mistreated and are fearful of people start to trust you and express love for you is amazing. It’s a great way for people who are not in a position to have their own dog full time, to still have a beautiful animal at times, and the reward is seeing them find their forever home. Everyone is so helpful, if you have any problems, like the dog not settling, they work with you to help resolve the issue. I can’t recommend fostering enough! It’s well worth a try!!
